Āsram. 1. ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਭਾਗ; ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨ (ਜਾਤਾਂ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਖਤਰੀ, ਵੈਸ਼, ਸੂਦਰ। four stages of life; four divisions of humanity on the basis of their means of livelihood, four castes.
ਉਦਾਹਰਨ:
ਬਰਨ ਆਸ੍ਰਮ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਨਉ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥ Raga Bilaaval 5, 61, 2:1 (P: 816).

ਸੰ. ਆਸ਼੍ਰਮ. ਨਾਮ/n. ਨਿਵਾਸ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ. ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ. “ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਸ੍ਰਮ ਦੀਆ.” (ਬਿਲਾ ਮਃ ੫) 2. ਹਿੰਦੂਮਤ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਭੇਦ ਹਨ- ਬ੍ਰਹ੍ਮਚਰਯ, ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸ੍ਥ, ਵਾਨਪ੍ਰਸ੍ਥ, ਅਤੇ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸ. “ਚਾਰ ਵਰਨ ਚਾਰ ਆਸ੍ਰਮ ਹਹਿ, ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ.” (ਗੋਂਡ ਮਃ ੪) ਦੇਖੋ- ਚਾਰ ਆਸ੍ਰਮ. Footnotes:
